Raghav Chadha was expelled from the Rajya Sabha for “rules violations.”

Raghav Chadha, an AAP member who was accused of not getting permission from five Rajya Sabha members before adding their names to a select committee, was expelled from the Upper House of Parliament on Friday. He will remain suspended from the chamber until the privileges committee that is looking into the case against him publishes its report. Piyush Goyal proposed the suspension and argued that Raghav Chadha’s behavior was immoral. Goyal accused Chadha of violating privilege and claiming that Chadha’s behavior was unexpected and unbecoming of a member of Parliament.

S Phangnon Konyak, Narhari Amin, Sudhanshu Trivedi, M Thambidurai, and Sasmit Patra, five Rajya Sabha MPs, claimed that their names were included in a select committee motion made by Raghav Chadha without their permission.

“Let’s say I host a birthday party and invite 10 guests. Eight of them show up, and two decline my invitation. They accuse me instead, saying, “How dare you invite us to your birthday.” This is what took place. I simply sent an invitation to them (the MPs) to join the committee, Raghav Chadha remarked.
