Mumbai– Sanjay Raut, a prominent leader of the Shiv Sena party, has voiced strong criticism against what he terms the exploitation of surgical strikes for electoral advantages, while also raising alarm about the potential for civil unrest in the lead-up to the 2024 elections. His remarks come amid ongoing debates over the strategic deployment of military actions and their political implications.
Raut’s statement highlights “There is fear in people’s and several political leaders’ minds that the political party (BJP) that can stage the drama of surgical strike to win elections… it can do anything. As former Jammu and Kashmir Governor Satyapal Malik alleged that the 2019 Pulwama attack didn’t take place but was staged, similar things are also being said about the Godhra incident (in 2002), that it was engineered,” said Raut in Mumbai.
Gondhra Incident(2002)
The Godhra incident of 2002 was a critical event that took place in the town of Godhra, Gujarat. On February 27, a train carrying Hindu pilgrims known as karsevaks was returning from Ayodhya. The train, Sabarmati Express, caught fire near the Godhra railway station. The fire resulted in the deaths of 59 people, most of whom were karsevaks. The incident ignited a series of communal riots across Gujarat, leading to significant loss of life, displacement, and property damage. Due to this, the situation gathered National and international attention.
Comparing with this dark incident Sanjay Raut dared to say that “We have concerns. During the first phase of Ram Mandir, many people visited Ayodhya by train. At that time, we were worried that trains would be stoned and hit in some areas. Raut said that this is what concerns the minds of people and parties.
As the Ram Mandir inauguration going to be in the year 2024, it is very important to acknowledge the statements that can highlight National safety and security. Allegations of exploitation of security incidents for political purposes underscore the need for transparent and ethical political conduct, especially when dealing with sensitive issues and the role of the country.
