Squatters removed in Delhi’s Vasant Kunj : MCD

The MCD has carried out a major anti-encroachment drive in Vasant Kunj, Sector B on Wednesday and has also removed many temporary structures that had come up illegally on pavements, thereby causing disturbance in the movement of pedestrians.

The action was done out in the presence of senior zonal officials. They also claimed the drive would continue this week as well.

An MCD official said the action was part of regular encroachment removal on footpaths and was undertaken on the complaints of residents.

“In the operation, 21 illegal kiosks that had encroached upon public space and caused inconvenience to residents were removed,” said Ameena Talwar of the Federation of Vasant Kunj RWAs.

“These encroachments pose a security threat. Their numbers were growing rampantly. At some places people had installed doors and shutters on the temporary tin structures,” added Talwar.

Moreover, as per an MCD official, the action was part of regular encroachment removal on footpaths and was undertaken on the complaints of residents.
