The CJI looses his cool during a Judicial proceeding

When a lawyer on Tuesday suggested a matter to be heard quickly before a Supreme Court bench he presided over, Chief Justice of India (CJI) D Y Chandrachud yelled at him, “Don’t interfere with my authority.

When the lawyer initially requested an early hearing of his case and then, after being informed that it will be listed on April 17, asked for liberty to mention it before another bench, the CJI, who rarely loses his cool during judicial procedures, became irritated.

If allowed, I can mention before another bench, the attorney remarked.Do not try to fool me in this way. The Chief Justice of India, who was sitting on the bench alongside Justices P S Narasimha and J B Pardiwala, observed, “You can’t announce it here and then elsewhere for an earlier date.”

The attorney expressed sorry and demanded to be excused for his comments after noticing the bench’s tone.

“You are, in fact, exempt. But do not meddle with my authority, the CJI firmly warned before hearing the mention of other matters that needed to be heard right away.

Every morning, the CJI-led bench hears around 100 cases on an average for their urgent listing before benches in the Supreme Court.
