The Defense Ministry has approved the purchase of 26 Rafale jets and three Scorpene submarines

By the end of Thursday, the Indian Defense Ministry had approved the initial nod to purchase 26 Dassault Aviation Rafale fighter jets and three submarines.

The submarine will be built by Mazagon Dock Shipbuilders in partnership with France’s Navel Group. The close business of India’s Russians creating platform maintenance work and Delays in Indigenous manufacturing plans for the opposite platform to India have made the two new defence deals necessary, and no more details are yet known, according to Reuters.

Now India has had more trust in French fighter jets for four decades. Before 2015, India bought Mirage jets in the 1980s, which still comprise two squadrons of the air force.

In 2005, India bought six scorpene-class diesel submarines from France for 18,800 cores, which will be commissioned next year.

On the recent tour of Prime Minister Narendra Modi to France, talks led to the sale of naval fighter jets.

The Economic Times reported on Thursday that the Indian Navy has been aiming to acquire 26 Rafele master fighter jets to meet the urgent requirement.

The signing of the deal paper for passing the agenda will take time for negotiations regarding the estimated cost of the said jets, which is around 5.5 billion Euros.

ET reported that India will already give the contract to make six submarines at Mazagon Dock Shipbuilder and assign the contract to make another three, and the cost of the additional submarines will be estimated to be around 4 billion Euros .

Continuously dealing with France reflects the trust and depth of strategic planning to announce the technology transfer of helicopter engines to India. Thus, India will become self-reliant in key technology areas and open the way for Indo-French collaboration in engines in the next 3 to 4 decades.
