The Maya Operating System is developed by the Indian Defence Ministry which would replace the Windows OS currently in use. Maya is an indigenously developed OS which is based on Ubuntu’s Linux OS. This move is to secure our systems in the present times of frequent malware attacks and cyber threats.

Windows OS is set to be put back and be replaced by Maya OS. It is a Microsoft operating System which is a licensed based OS which can be easily downloaded. It also provides a user-friendly interface. Linux OS is the free open source software which provides secure interface and protection to the users. Maya OS is developed based on Linux which provides a User-friendly interface similar to that of Windows. This is done so that the replacement would provide a secure interface as well as an Interface which could be easy to adapt.

The Indian Navy has cleared Maya to be used in its Systems, whereas Army and Air Force are in the process of evaluation of the software. The Systems with Maya OS comes with the extra protection of Chakravyuh which acts as a barrier between user and the internet. This allows in safeguarding sensitive information when connected to the network.

The Maya OS has been developed by the Ministry of Defence with the help of several government agencies such as DRDO (Defence Research and Development Organisation), NIC (National Informatics Centre) and C-DAC (Centre for Development of Advanced Computing).

The Indian Defence Ministry has taken a great dynamism in developing India’s own Operating System. In the era of cyberspace wars, increasing the layers of protection is the best option to be safe from being vulnerable to attacks.
