The resignations of BJP legislators in Manipur create speculation of trouble

Saffron party state unit has been roiled by resignations from administrative posts, causing speculation that Biren Singh’s government is headed for trouble.

It was the fourth time this month that a BJP legislator in Manipur resigned from his administrative post.

There is some news today concerning the resignation of Uripok’s BJP MLA Khwairakpam Raghumani from the chair of the Manipur Renewable Energy Development Agency (MANIREDA).

MANIREDA Chairman Raghumani, in his resignation letter to Chief Minister N Biren Singh, said he was stepping down for “personal reasons as well as the public interest.”. Raghumani stated that “I feel that my continued appointment as chairman at this point in time in MANIREDA is not necessary at this time.”.

There have been a series of resignations from administrative positions by MLAs in the state unit of the Saffron party, which has prompted speculations of trouble for Government Biren Singh.

As a result, Langthabal MLA Karan Shyam resigned from the chairmanship of Tourism Corporation Manipur Limited on April 17 following the resignation of Thokchom Radhesyam from the position of advisor to the chief minister on April 8.

According to both legislators, they resigned because they did not feel they were given any responsibility.

After an April 20, 2012 meeting of the Manipur Development Society meeting, Wangjing Tentha MLA Paonam Brojen resigned from the chairmanship, citing “personal reasons.” On April 21, 2012, after the BJP held a meeting on April 21, the Chief Minister said there was a “no crisis within the party”.
