The MITRA Mega Textile Park which was launched in Uttar Pradesh (UP) marks the second park to be initiated in India, following the first one in Tamil Nadu. The Indian government has approved a total of seven Mega Textile Parks across the country. The memorandum of understanding (MoU) between UP and the central government was signed at an event in Lucknow, attended by Indian textile minister Piyush Goyal and UP chief minister Yogi Adityanath.
The textile park will be located in the Lucknow-Hardoi districts, approximately 500 km east of New Delhi, and will span 1,000 acres of land. Eastern UP is known for its traditional textile hubs and has a rich tradition of textiles, a large market, and a skilled workforce.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi tweeted that the setting up of the PM Mitra Mega Textiles Park in UP will greatly benefit the state, with its rich textile heritage and large consumer base. Textile minister Piyush Goyal, who attended the event as the chief guest, assured that the central government will expedite the development of UP’s textile park and emphasized the need to meet investors’ expectations by resolving challenges with speed and efficiency.
UP CM Yogi Adityanath called for the park to be operational as soon as possible and announced an internship scheme for workers in the textile industry to connect young people with entrepreneurs. He also highlighted ongoing projects for air, train, and road connectivity that will support the operations of the textile industry in the region.
