“We will come together and fight for democracy”, says Thackeray

Former Maharashtra chief minister Uddhav Thackeray had a meeting with Congress General KC Venugopal on Monday at his ‘Matoshree’ residence in Mumbai. He mentions, “Although the two parties differ in ideologies we will come together and fight for democracy.” 

“BJP wants power but Shiv Sena wants to save democracy. Shiv Sena will come together with Congress and fight for democracy”, adds Thackeray. 

Thackeray also accused BJP of betrayal. He said, “We maintained a relationship with BJP for 25 to 30 years. But it is sad that they didn’t understand who was a friend and who was a foe. Last time when BJP chief JP Nadda came to Mumbai he said that there will be one party that is BJP. This is the biggest betrayal.”

Venugopal also addressed Thackeray and said, “I have requested Uddhav ji to come to Delhi and meet Rahul Gandhi and Sonia ji. 

Earlier on April 13, opposition unity was formed so that it could take on BJP in the 2024 Lok Sabha polls. NCP chief Sharad Pawar met Congress president Mallikarjun Kharge and Congress party leader Rahul Gandhi. On the same day Bihar CM Nitish Kumar and RJD leader Tejashwi Yadav met with Mallikarjun Kharge, Rahul Gandhi and Delhi CM Arvind Kejriwal. I  this meeting that tried to form an opposition unity to take on the saffron party BJP.
