On Thursday, a 17-year-old girl was raped and thrown into a pond. The girl’s name was Dholi Burman, she studied in class 10 and went missing while going for tuition and her body was found in the pond on Friday.
The victim’s mother complained alleged that a 20-year-old youth named Javed Akhtar raped and murdered her daughter and demanded a CBI probe into the incident.
According to the post-mortem report, no rape was found nor any wound. A poisoned bottle was found near her body, the police said.
The clashes broke out after a video of the police dragging the victim’s body away went viral on social media at Kaliaganj in Uttar Dinajpur district. Heavy police force deployed in the area; According to the information received, a young man named Javed Akhtar surrendered and later the police arrested him.
The incident sparked violence in the area, with locals burning tires and throwing bricks at the police, following which tear gas was used to control the situation, The Police said.
Political parties like BJP, TMC as well as National Commission for Women reached the spot and analyzed the situation.
Head of the BJP IT Cell Amit Malviya tweeted with a video of the incident, “In this video, the body West Bengal Police is insensitively dragging is that of a minor rape and murder victim from the Rajbongshi Community in Uttar Dinajpur’s Kaliyaganj. Such haste is often seen when the purpose is to eliminate or dilute evidence and cover up the crime”.
Dinajpur, TMC’s chief Kanayalal Aggarwal said, “The Police should have used a stretcher or an ambulance to carry the victim’s body rather than what they did. But the body had to be taken out anyhow to avoid any flare-up and to conduct the post-mortem.
The National Commission for Women statement, “The stringent action must be taken against police officials who were purportedly seen in the video dragging the victim’s body.
On Saturday, BJP State President Sukanta Majumdar visited the incident and spoke with the victim’s family.
Many locals said that it was gang-raped by Javed Akhter and his friends and Javed Akhter was her boyfriend.
