Japan Prepares for Tsunami After 7.6 Magnitude Earthquake

Waves are expected to reach as high as 16 feet (5 meters). There have been thirty earthquakes in the past few hours alone, with more expected to come. This is the first major tsunami warning since 2011,when around 20,000 people died.

A 7.6 magnitude earthquake struck central Japan this morning and people have been told to evacuate immediately. Japan is now preparing for a major tsunami after a warning was issued for Ishikawa. Waves are expected to reach as high as 16 feet (5 meters). There have been thirty earthquakes in the past few hours alone, with more expected to come. This is the first major tsunami warning since 2011,when around 20,000 people died.


The earthquake reportedly killed at least 48 people, injured dozens and sparked fires that destroyed homes. Soon tsunami waves followed within the 300 Km of the epicenter in Ishikawa according to the local weather agencies. People from coastal areas were evacuated and moved from the 5 meters high waves. The earthquake damaged several houses and led to big cracks in roads in the affected areas.

Thousands of people in Japan are spending the night in evacuation centers after the earthquake.Videos of roads cracking and pavement rising after the earthquake are getting viral over the social media. Several tourists including Japanese bloggers shared videos and their experience.
