Finance Minister Harpal Singh Cheema highlights the comprehensive plan to guide future governments towards achieving growth targets
Punjab Finance Minister Harpal Singh Cheema announced on Monday that the state government is in the process of formulating a vision document aimed at achieving an annual economic growth rate of 7.5% by 2030 and 10% by 2047.
According to Cheema, this vision document will serve as a guiding framework for successive governments, directing their efforts and policies in the right direction. The Planning Department is currently drafting the comprehensive document, which will encompass an assessment of the current economic status, sector-specific challenges, short-term (2030) and long-term (2047) targets, as well as strategies to achieve these objectives.
Cheema further explained that the vision document aims to align the endeavors of various administrative departments and agencies in order to overcome challenges and attain the identified sectoral goals. Additionally, the document will shed light on critical areas that require substantial efforts to revive Punjab’s economy, with a focus on promoting employment, industry, agriculture, rural development, infrastructure, sustainable cities, and communities.
He emphasized the government’s commitment to prioritize inclusive and equitable quality education, healthcare infrastructure, gender equality, affordable and clean energy, climate action, and natural resource conservation. Cheema highlighted the Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann-led administration’s dedication to restoring the state’s former glory through effective economic policies and people-centric programs like ‘Sarkar Tuhade Dwar’ (Government at Your Doorstep).
Under the ‘Sarkar Tuhade Dwar’ initiative, three Cabinet meetings have already been conducted in Ludhiana, Jalandhar, and Mansa. Cheema noted that this program has brought about a revolutionary change in the entire governance system by ensuring direct accountability of the bureaucracy to the public.
