The Delhi government has withdrawn an order on extended winter holidays in schools

The Delhi administration canceled an order to prolong the winter holiday in schools in the national capital on Saturday, only hours after it announced an extension of the vacation till January 10. According to news agency ANI, the Delhi Department of Education confirmed that the prior order was “mistakenly” issued and that a judgment on the subject will be made on Sunday morning.

The Delhi Directorate of Education noted that winter holiday instructions would be issued in due time. “Order No.DE.23(3)/Sch.Br./2024/18, dated January 6, 2024, regarding Winter Vacation Extension, is hereby withdrawn with immediate effect.” “Additional instructions in this respect may be published in the future,” the modified directive stated.

The Delhi government had already extended the winter vacation to January 10 in all government-aided and unaided accredited private schools in the national capital territory (NCT) due to “extreme winter weather and IMD’s yellow alert.”

On Saturday, Delhi had yet another day of gloomy, foggy weather, with a midday peak temperature of 15.2 degrees Celsius and an early-morning low of 8.9 degrees.

The India Meteorological Department (IMD) forecast that temperatures will climb over the following two days, with an incoming western disturbance bringing light rain on Tuesday. Officials predicted on Saturday that cold day temperatures should be gone by Sunday.

School holidays in Noida and Greater Noida

Additionally, the Gautam Buddh Nagar government on Saturday instructed every school in Noida and Greater Noida to close for pupils up to 8th grade till January 14 due to the dense fog and chilly weather.

The directive, given by local Basic Education Officer Rahul Panwar, applies to all institutions accredited by the state board, CBSE, ICSE, IB, and others.

“In accordance with the directions given by District Magistrate Maneesh Kumar Verma in perceptions of the thick mist and severe temperatures, all the board (CBSE/ICSE IB, UP Board and others) associated schools (from Class nursery to 8) operating in the region of Gautam Buddh Nagar, will observe holiday till January 14,” the statement said.
