Marking the commencement of India’s 77th Independence Day celebrations, President Droupadi Murmu bestowed the Tatrakshak Medals upon deserving members of the Indian Coast Guard. These medals stand as a testament to their exceptional valor, unwavering commitment to duty, and exemplary service. Notably, the Ministry of Defence clarified that these decorations were conferred to acknowledge recipients for their “act of remarkable gallantry, a great devotion to duty, and outstanding or meritorious service.”
Six Tatrakshak Medals, which include the distinguished President’s Tatrakshak Medal (PTM) and five Tatrakshak Medals (TM), have been granted to honor the diverse achievements of the Indian Coast Guard personnel.

Beyond individuals, honors extended further with 30 Mention-in-Despatches authorized for the Army, including one for the late Army dog Madhu, and one for Air Force personnel. These acknowledgments underscore the contributions of these brave individuals in various military actions, such as Operation Rakshak, Operation Snow Leopard, Operation Casualty Evacuation, and more.
President Murmu lauded India’s remarkable GDP growth despite challenges, alongside the significant reduction in poverty over the past decade. The Indian Space Research Organization (ISRO) received her praise for remarkable achievements and the forthcoming Chandrayaan-3 mission. She expressed confidence in the “Vikram” lander and “Pragyan” rover achieving a lunar landing.
President Murmu’s praise of India’s accomplishments and aspirations, show a country that is excellence-driven, resilient, and determined.
