An insider has revealed that the Indian Tata Group and American chipmaker Nvidia are on the verge of announcing a significant partnership in the field of artificial intelligence.
On a recent Friday, Reliance Industries, under the ownership of Mukesh Ambani, and Nvidia made a joint announcement. Subsequently, their collaboration is primarily focused on developing generative applications and AI language models customized for the millions of telecom subscribers under the Indian company’s purview.
As part of this strategic alliance, Nvidia will be responsible for supplying the necessary computing power, while Jio, an affiliate of Reliance, will take charge of operating and maintaining the AI cloud infrastructure, as well as handling customer engagement.
“Reliance will create AI applications and services for their 450 million Jio (telecom) customers and provide energy-efficient AI infrastructure to scientists, developers and startups across India,” according to a statement from Nvidia.
Globally, ChatGPT, the renowned generative AI chatbot from OpenAI, heavily relies on computing devices exclusively manufactured by Nvidia. Moreover, ChatGPT reads written prompts and employs them to generate human-like responses, thereby establishing itself as a prominent example of a big language model-powered application.
Reliance claimed that the new AI infrastructure will advance several major AI initiatives in India. These initiatives include chatbots, drug discovery, climate research, and more. Reliance is reportedly thinking about entering the Indian chip manufacturing market, according to Reuters on Friday.
Earlier this week, Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Nvidia CEO Jensen Huang held a detailed discussion about India’s immense potential in artificial intelligence.
PM Modi emphasized Jensen Huang’s appreciation for India’s AI progress in a post on X (formerly Twitter).
According to PM Modi’s tweet on X, “Had an excellent meeting with Mr. Jensen Huang, the CEO of @nvidia.” We spoke at length about India’s enormous potential in the field of artificial intelligence. Mr. Jensen Huang expressed gratitude for India’s AI advancements and showed equal excitement for the country’s young talent.
In 1993, Jensen Huang, Chris Malachowsky, and Curtis Priem co-founded Nvidia Corporation with a specific focus: delivering 3D graphics for gaming and multimedia industries.
