More on Project Tiger

Project Tiger has now completed 50 years on 1st April 2023. This Project was first created and established in 1972 with the main aim of conserving Indian wildlife. This project helped ensure proper maintenance and survival of tiger population in many reserves in India. Its objective is to ensure a viable population of Bengal tigers in their natural habitats, protecting them from extinction, and preserving areas of biological importance as a natural heritage. This mega event will be celebrating the successful establishment of Project Tiger.

Importance of the Project

The tiger is an apex predator that needs a huge habitat. It is also an important species that is required for conserving India’s wildlife as well as forest systems. As the national animal of our country, the tiger is also a source of great pride and strength. Not only this, but the tiger also plays a vital role in maintaining an ecological food chain. However, despite its importance for our ecosystems, the species faced threats due to illegal hunting as well as wildlife trade of tigers. This is one of the main reasons for the establishment of Project Tiger. For more such updates and important headlines, subscribe to STMN News. Blockage of train tracks on 2 stations in West Bengal
