Officials have announced that due to the G20 Summit 2023, all municipal, state-run, and non-essential private offices in Delhi would be closed from September 8 to 10. For security reasons, several Metro stations may be stopped while markets and banks in the New Delhi police region may also be closed throughout the summit. The goal of the closure is to limit resident difficulty and traffic congestion. The Chamber of Trade and Industry (CTI) chairman, Brijesh Goyal, stated that no official order about the closure of stores in the New Delhi district has yet been issued. Tradespeople requested that businesses stay open during the event.
“We ask the government to keep the stores open. The private sector is ready to provide the authorities any support that is required for security. Other factors and the government should maintain business as usual by keeping the stores open.”
G20 Summit 2023 attendees might arrive early for an event in Pragati Maidan. They will be followed by a cultural event prior the main event. The wives of the leaders will travel to Pusa Road and the National Gallery for Modern Art. They may also take guided trips to see other city sites, according to officials.
The main event is scheduled for September 9–10, and it is expected that 29 heads of state, representatives from the European Union, representatives of invited guest countries, and 14 heads of international organisations would attend. In the Delhi-NCR region, there are several hotels dedicated for conference attendees.
Security measures
There will likely be increased security at a number of places, including Chandni Chowk, Khan Market, Dilli Haat, Connaught Place, and Malcha Marg Market. Yet, no formal notice has yet been made public. Beginning on August 16, the Municipal Corporation of Delhi (MCD) has started projects to repair 26 major city roads. The Delhi Police will shortly release traffic recommendations for the G20 meeting.
