On Tuesday, the President of Droupadi Murmu will deliver his first address to a joint session of both Houses of Parliament, marking the official beginning of the parliamentary Budget session for the fiscal year 2023-2024. This address focuses on the government’s accomplishments and the priorities of its policy. Obtaining approval for the Motion of Thanks to the President’s Address and the Finance Bill will be the highest priority for the administration on Tuesday.
The government’s top priority will be to get approval for the Motion of Thanks to the President’s Address and the Finance Bill. On the other hand, the Opposition is ready to take on the government on several issues, such as the Adani-Hindenburg dispute, a nationwide economic census based on caste, and the women’s reservation bill.
After the President’s speech on Tuesday, the Economic Survey will be presented by Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman. From February 6th until April 6th, there will be a total of 27 sessions on the budget, with a break of one month to review the budget documents.
The first half of the budget session will be concluded on February 14. The second segment of the current session of Parliament will begin on March 12 and continue through April 6 of this year. During the course of the budget session, the government intends to introduce approximately 36 measures, four of which will pertain to budgetary exercise.
On Wednesday, Nirmala Sitharaman, Minister of Finance, will deliver the final comprehensive Union Budget of the Modi administration before the 2024 Lok Sabha elections.
